Description

Interested in examining unsettling or edgy themes but don’t know how to get started? Nervous about writing outside the usual rules of CanLit? This workshop series is designed to help writers of any medium, genre or experience level learn to start pushing boundaries with their work.

Full of provocative exercises and frank discussion, these fun and interactive sessions will provide participants with tips and techniques that will help build confidence in working with the unusual, the taboo and the experimental.

Students will be asked to read aloud from their work and to provide feedback to other participants. Students will also receive written feedback from the instructor as the course progresses.

Please note: due to the content in some of the exercises, this workshop is 18+.

Testimonials

“Tracey’s class is playful and energetic. She’s asking you to do something different, not for the sake of difference itself, but to help you bypass your own conventions and habits. Approaching your work through her tools and prompts gives you the distance you need to stay in the editing process, turning a story in your hand, setting it down on its head, dressing it in other clothes, allowing it to change or be a catalyst for another story altogether. Creating means making, not just knocking ideas around in your head, and Tracey’s class stokes that impetus to rewrite, to try again, to reframe, reformat, to stop scrolling your aspirations from the couch and get your track shoes on.” – Amy, former workshop participant

“I really enjoyed Tracey’s workshop. The assignments she gave us were challenging but also very rewarding creatively. I feel like I really expanded as a writer in this workshop and have more confidence and motivation to work on future projects. The feedback was very informative and helped me improve my short story writing. I hope to take another workshop from Tracey again in the future.” – Naomi, former workshop participant

“Best class ever, highly recommended.” – Matthew, former workshop participant
